Massive Drone Attack on Moscow: Three Dead and Dozens of Drones Shot Down
During the night of March 10 to 11, Russia experienced the largest drone attack since the beginning of the war. A total of 337 Ukrainian drones targeted several regions, including the suburbs of Moscow, Vidnoye, and Domodedovo, resulting in at least three civilian deaths and injuring more than a dozen people.
An Unprecedented Assault on the Russian Capital
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that 91 drones were intercepted over Moscow and 126 in the border region of Kursk. Air defense systems were quickly deployed, but some drones still reached civilian targets:
- In Domodedovo, three workers were killed in the parking lot of an agro-industrial distribution center just before the start of their shift.
- In Ramenskoye, a 22-story building was partially destroyed, with rooftop debris scattered on the sidewalk.
- In Sapronovo, a drone struck the 21st floor of a residential building, damaging several apartments.
Impact on Transport and Security
The attack disrupted air traffic: Vnukovo Airport suspended flights, while Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo imposed temporary restrictions. As a precaution, a village of 800 residents was evacuated in the Vladimir region after drone debris fell nearby.
A Strong Signal Before Negotiations
This attack comes just before crucial talks in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and American representatives, aimed at exploring possibilities for a partial ceasefire. According to Andrii Kovalenko, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, this operation is a “direct signal to Vladimir Putin” to encourage discussions on an aerial and maritime truce.
As negotiations loom, the conflict continues to rage on the ground: Russian shelling persists in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv’s forces maintain pressure on Russian borders.
Toward Escalation or a Step Toward Peace?
This attack highlights the complexity of the situation: it reinforces Ukrainian resolve while escalating tensions. As international discussions intensify, civilians on both sides of the border continue to bear the heavy cost of a conflict that seems far from resolution.
