Orange vigilance for strong winds in corsica: gusts up to 120 km/h expected
Strong gusts of wind, reaching up to 120 km/h, are expected in Corsica from the night of Thursday, December 19 to Friday, December 20, and throughout the day on Friday. Météo-France has placed two island departments under orange vigilance for strong winds: Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud.
A “violent windstorm” is anticipated on the island, with the arrival of storm Dionisio, which is expected to bring particularly strong gusts.
Exceptionally strong gusts
Winds coming from the west will begin to strengthen during the night from Thursday to Friday, particularly in the second half of the night. Météo-France forecasts gusts between 90 and 100 km/h across the island, with peaks reaching 140 km/h in Balagne, in the northwest of Corsica, and locally up to 180 km/h in Cap Corse.
The phenomenon will continue throughout Friday, weakening in the afternoon and dissipating by evening.
Weather conditions elsewhere in france
In addition to Corsica, strong wind gusts are expected in Languedoc-Roussillon, the Alps, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region during the night from Thursday to Friday. Showers are also forecast in the Pyrénées region.
