On Friday, February 14, 2025, La Seine Musicale in Boulogne-Billancourt hosted the 40th Victoires de la Musique ceremony. This milestone anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the leading talents of the French music scene with prestigious awards, moving performances, and heartfelt tributes.
The Evening’s Big Winners
Zaho de Sagazan and Gims, Artists of the Year
Zaho de Sagazan continues her meteoric rise by winning the award for Best Female Artist. Already a multi-award winner in 2024, she has established herself at 25 as a key figure in French music. In the male category, Gims was named Artist of the Year, nine years after making a lasting impression with Sapés comme jamais.
Breakthrough Artists of the Year: Pierre Garnier and Solann
Pierre Garnier, winner of Star Academy 2024, was named Male Revelation. His hit Ceux qu’on était also earned him the Victoire for Best Original Song. On the female side, Solann was crowned Revelation of the Year, touching audiences with Monstrueuse and her album Si on sombre ce sera beau.
Santa Triumphs with Recommence-moi
Santa, the most-nominated artist of this edition, won the award for Album of the Year with Recommence-moi. On stage, she dedicated this honor to her late parents in an emotional moment.
A Tribute to Music Icons
Sylvie Vartan and Eddy Mitchell Honored
Two legendary figures of French music, Sylvie Vartan and Eddy Mitchell, were awarded Honorary Victoires, presented by David Hallyday and Alain Souchon, respectively.
A Poignant Tribute to DJ Mehdi
The evening also honored the memory of DJ Mehdi, the brilliant producer and composer who passed away in 2011. Mokobé, Rim’K, and other artists paid tribute to him on stage, while the award for Best Audiovisual Creation went to DJ Mehdi: Made in France.
An Unforgettable Olympic Moment
The opening and closing ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games were named Concert of the Year, marking a historic moment for music and live performance. Thomas Jolly, director of these events, took the opportunity to share a powerful reflection on the role of culture in society.
A Nostalgic Journey Through 40 Years of Victoires
The ceremony opened with a special sequence featuring Serge Lama revisiting memorable moments from past editions. Icons such as Serge Gainsbourg, France Gall, Amel Bent, Alain Bashung, and Michel Berger were honored. A particularly moving moment was Carla Bruni and Laurent Voulzy’s performance of Tous les garçons et les filles in tribute to Françoise Hardy, who passed away last June.
