A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday July 15 after stabbing a soldier at the Gare de l’Est in Paris. According to a police source quoted by H24 MEDIA and confirming an AFP report, the suspect has been placed under psychiatric care at the Paris police headquarters infirmary

The suspect, already known to the authorities for a murder case dating back to 2018, where he had been judged criminally irresponsible due to psychiatric disorders, was quickly apprehended by other soldiers present at the scene.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for attempted murder, which was reclassified this Tuesday morning after the facts were initially qualified as attempted murder. The investigation is now in the hands of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The wounded soldier, shot between the shoulder blades, was taken to hospital where his condition was deemed “reassuring” on Tuesday morning, according to corroborating sources reported to H24 MEDIA.
