Social mobilisation on 1 October: TGVs unaffected, slight disruption to regional trains

A number of unions are calling for a day of strike action and mobilisation on Tuesday 1 October, to demand the repeal of the pension reform and pay rises. The CGT, Solidaires, FSU and several youth organisations have confirmed that they will be taking part.

According to the information provided by SNCF on Sunday 29 September, TGV traffic should remain ‘normal’ throughout the day. However, some disruption is expected on regional lines, particularly TER, Transilien and Intercités. Detailed traffic forecasts for each line will be published on Monday.

In Paris, a demonstration will start from Place Denfert-Rochereau at 2pm, just before the Prime Minister’s general policy speech, scheduled for 3pm. This speech, which is crucial for the remainder of his term in office, is expected to set out the government’s main policy directions, particularly on social issues that are still unresolved, such as unemployment insurance and the employment of senior citizens.

As a result, 1 October promises to be a day of large-scale mobilisation, with wage and pension demands at the heart of the debates, and could coincide with a pivotal moment for the government.
