For the moment, the public prosecutor’s office is not establishing any link between Friday’s shooting and these new gunshots, although this could be envisaged given the context

Two men were fatally shot on Sunday 5 May in Sevran, less than two days after a shooting linked to drug trafficking that had already resulted in one death and several serious injuries in this commune of Seine-Saint-Denis, according to police and judicial sources. The two men shot were aged 33 and 35 respectively. At this stage, the public prosecutor is not establishing any link between Friday’s shooting and these new events, although this hypothesis is being considered given the context. The criminal brigade will take charge of the investigation to shed light on this series of violent incidents.

On Friday night, a 28-year-old man was killed and four other people were seriously injured in a shootout in the Beaudottes housing estate, an emblematic district of this deprived town in the northern suburbs of Paris. Three other individuals with gunshot wounds also went to hospital later that night. The town’s mayor, Stéphane Blanchet, described the incident as ‘a settling of scores inevitably linked to drug trafficking’, stressing the need to combat this underground economy with appropriate means.

At the scene, 25 7.62 calibre cartridge cases, frequently used for Kalashnikov-type firearms, were discovered.
Sevran had already been the scene of an anti-drug operation called ‘Place Net XXL’ on 25 March, aimed at putting an end to drug trafficking. At the time, the Prefecture of Police claimed that the Rougemont housing estate drug dealing point had been ‘eliminated’.
