The Great Mosque of Paris announces the end of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, March 30, 2025
On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the Great Mosque of Paris confirmed that the holy month of Ramadan will officially end on Sunday, March 30. In a statement, the institution specified that its religious commission, in collaboration with several national Muslim federations, had observed the possibility of sighting the new moon, signaling the end of the fasting month and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the fast.
Ramadan, which began on Saturday, March 1, is a month of reflection, solidarity, and sharing, observed by Muslims worldwide. While fasting is the most well-known practice, Ramadan also includes prayers, moments of charity towards the needy, and deep spiritual reflection. The end of this month is marked by Eid al-Fitr, a major religious celebration held the day after the last day of fasting.
This announcement follows one made by the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), which also designated March 30 as the date for the end of Ramadan. Muslims in France, as well as around the world, are preparing to celebrate Eid, a time of collective joy.
In 2025, Ramadan ends earlier than in previous years, a result of the lunar Islamic calendar, which causes the fasting period to shift progressively each year.
