Pensions: Olivier Faure threatens to censure the government if the discussions are not referred to Parliament

Pension Reform: Olivier Faure Threatens to Censure the Government if Parliament is Not Seized

Faure Demands Parliamentary Action After Social Discussions on Pension Reform
On Saturday, March 29, the First Secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, expressed his position on the pension reform. According to him, Parliament must be seized after the discussions between social partners. If not, he stated that censuring the government of François Bayrou would become a “moral obligation.”

The Legal Retirement Age Remains a Topic of Debate
In mid-March, François Bayrou ruled out the idea of returning to the legal retirement age of 62, during the “conclave” on the reform. Faure criticized this position, claiming that the Prime Minister had already made a decision by excluding this option. However, he pointed out that the question of the legal retirement age remains “on the table,” as both unions and employers have chosen to continue discussions.

Faure Warns Against the Absence of Parliamentary Action
The Socialist leader stressed that, as long as the discussions continue, they must be allowed to run their course. “Parliament must be seized,” he reiterated firmly. If this does not happen, he added, censure would be for him a “moral obligation” to the citizens who entrusted him to defend this message.

Record and Renewed Confidence within the PS
Faure, campaigning for a fourth term as head of the PS, also reminded the public of his record, emphasizing that his proposals had been adopted unanimously or nearly so, including the censure of the government of Michel Barnier and the lack of censure for François Bayrou’s government.
