Fatal collision between a military vehicle and a train in Pas-de-Calais

Two soldiers lost their lives on Monday, March 17, around 11 a.m., after their service vehicle was hit by a train at a level crossing in the Bailleul-Sire-Berthoult area (Pas-de-Calais), H24 NEWS learned from the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the gendarmerie, confirming information from La Voix du Nord.

The accident also left four passengers on the train injured. Rail traffic between Lens and Arras was completely halted in both directions, according to SNCF. Some trains were rerouted, leading to longer travel times. Service is expected to gradually resume from 6 p.m.

In a statement, SNCF extended its “thoughts to the victims of this road accident and to our passengers who were on the train.”
