The alert concerns the departments of Gironde, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne and Landes

On Tuesday 18 June, four departments in south-west France were placed on orange alert for thunderstorms. Météo-France has issued the alert for Gironde, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne and Landes. Although “the event has not yet begun in these departments”, the institute states in its bulletin, “sometimes violent thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, with notably heavy rainfall and large hail”.

During the storms, Météo-France is forecasting hail, with a “significant risk of hailstones over 2 cm in diameter”, “rainfall totals of up to 30 to 50 mm in a short space of time” and “wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h”. The storms will then move towards the north of the Massif Central and the Centre-Val de Loire during the night.
