Pope Francis, “weakened” but a beacon of hope, delivers an emotional message to the faithful from the hospital
Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for over a month in Rome due to double pneumonia, shared a poignant message with his faithful on Sunday, March 16. From his hospital room, he expressed solidarity with those who, like him, are facing illness and fragility. “I am facing a trial,” he stated, adding that even though our bodies are weakened, “nothing can stop us from loving, praying, giving ourselves, and being there for one another, in faith, as bright signs of hope.”
A tribute to healthcare workers and a call to prayer for peace
In his message, the Holy Father also paid a heartfelt tribute to healthcare workers, praising their dedication and the “loving care” that brightens healthcare settings. “I thank you all for your prayers and thank those who assist me with such devotion,” he added, offering a special word of affection for children. Pope Francis also called for prayer for peace, particularly in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, emphasizing the importance of unity in these times of war.
Although his health is gradually improving, the Vatican confirmed that the Pope must remain hospitalized to continue his treatment.
