Starting June 6, 2025, a major reshuffling of TNT channel numbering will take place, following decisions made by Arcom in December. This adjustment will affect several channels and introduce notable changes, particularly for news channels and mainstream channels.

A New Organization for News and General Channels

News channels will now be grouped together in a block, from channels 13 to 16. BFMTV, currently on channel 15, will move to channel 13, followed by CNews on channel 14, LCI on channel 15, and Franceinfo, which is leaving channel 27, will move to channel 16. This reorganization aims to make it easier for viewers to quickly access all news channels.

Changes for Generalist and Children’s Channels

On the generalist side, France 4 will take over channel 4, currently occupied by Canal+, which has chosen to withdraw from terrestrial broadcasting. The highly sought-after channel 8 will be assigned to La Chaîne Parlementaire, in partnership with Public Sénat, while the children’s channel Gulli will take over channel 12, gaining six positions.

The Arrival of New Channels on TNT

The audiovisual landscape is diversifying with the introduction of two new channels. CMI TV, created by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky’s group, will take position on channel 18, and OFTV, a channel launched by the Ouest-France group, will occupy channel 19. These additions mark a turning point in TV offerings, introducing new perspectives for viewers.

Reactions to the Decision

These changes are not without consequences. The RMC BFM group, which has played a major role in the development of TNT in France with BFMTV since 2005, has criticized the new numbering, considering it an unfair disruption. According to the group, this reorganization disadvantages its channels, which have been present since 2012, and alters viewers’ habits without proper justification. Arcom’s decision, which has given higher channels to new entrants, is also under scrutiny.

In Summary

On June 6, 2025, viewers will need to adapt to this new channel numbering, which redistributes the cards for news, generalist, and new channels. This reorganization aims to make the offering more fluid and accessible, but it has stirred up some controversy, particularly among already well-established players like the RMC BFM group. Ultimately, these changes are expected to profoundly impact television habits and prepare the ground for the evolution of the audiovisual landscape in the digital age.
