French MP Charles de Courson was appointed General Rapporteur for the State Budget on Saturday July 20, as announced by the National Assembly on X

Elected under the Liot label (Libertés, indépendants, outre-mer et territoires), he received 27 votes, tied with Jean-René Cazeneuve of the Ensemble pour la République group. Matthias Renault, from Rassemblement National, received 17 votes. In the event of a tie between the first two candidates, the rule stipulates that the oldest candidate is chosen. Charles de Courson, aged 72, was thus preferred to Jean-René Cazeneuve, aged 66. Prior to this election, de Courson had also sought election as Chairman of the Finance Committee, but withdrew in the second round, allowing Éric Coquerel of La France Insoumise to be re-elected.
