François Bayrou finalises his government with Emmanuel Macron
Ten days after his appointment to Matignon, François Bayrou is making the final adjustments to the composition of his government. On Sunday 22 December, the MoDem leader is due to hold further talks with the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, in the late afternoon.
Regular and constructive discussions
According to the Prime Minister’s entourage, this meeting is a continuation of discussions already underway between the two men, who have spoken twice in recent days. These discussions, described as ‘very constructive’, enabled progress to be made on the final details. A source close to the matter said that ‘a few minor comments and adjustments’ still needed to be incorporated before the official announcement.
An imminent announcement
According to the Élysée, the new government team could be presented this Sunday evening or Monday morning at the latest. In an interview with *La Tribune*, Marc Fesneau, president of the MoDem MPs, confirmed that the full list would be unveiled ‘in one go’ and ‘before Christmas’.
As the deadline approaches, the new Prime Minister is busy putting the finishing touches to a team that can rise to the challenge, in close collaboration with the Head of State.
