A man was arrested this Thursday, November 21, in Portugal, more than two months after the tragic death of Lilian Dejean, a municipal officer shot dead in Grenoble. This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that deeply affected the region.
A Long-Awaited Arrest
According to sources confirmed by H24 MEDIA and RTL, the individual was apprehended by Portuguese police under a European arrest warrant issued by a Grenoble investigating judge. Éric Vaillant, Public Prosecutor of Grenoble, stated:
“A man (…) has just been arrested in Portugal under the European arrest warrant issued by the investigating judge. Checks are underway to confirm the identity of the person arrested.”
The suspect, a 25-year-old man, had been the subject of an international search notice since September 14. An identification document belonging to him was found at the crime scene, guiding investigators in their pursuit.
A Ray of Hope for the Family
For Romain Ruiz, lawyer for Lilian Dejean’s family, this arrest represents a crucial step:
“This is the end of a nightmare and the beginning of a long judicial process. It is always encouraging to see justice carry out its work in the presence of those it accuses.”
A Recap of the Events
The tragedy occurred on September 8 in Grenoble. Lilian Dejean, a municipal officer, had tried to stop the perpetrator of a road accident from fleeing the scene. The latter then shot him before disappearing. Gravely injured, Lilian Dejean succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.
This arrest now paves the way for a complex but necessary judicial process to honor the memory of Lilian Dejean and provide justice for his family.
