Police looking for new information
Investigators tracking down Mohamed Amra, who escaped during the deadly attack on a prison van in the Eure region on May 14, issued an appeal for witnesses on Wednesday July 10.
“The judicial police are looking for anyone present on May 14, 2024 between 10am and 12pm, between Acquigny and Évreux, or more generally in Eure and Seine-Maritime, who witnessed suspicious or unusual events, or saw the vehicles used by the criminals,” the investigators write. Witnesses can contact the Direction nationale de la police judiciaire by telephone on 0.800.35.83.35 or by e-mail at dnpj-oclco-temoin@interieur.gouv.fr.
Three vehicles set on fire
Law enforcement agencies point out that, during the escape, several armed people organized into a commando enabled Mohamed Amra to escape. Two prison officers were killed and three others wounded in the violent attack, which was filmed by nearby CCTV cameras.
“They set fire to the black Peugeot 5008 (registration number EY-134-FY) used to ram the van, then left the scene in two other vehicles: a white Audi S5 (registration number CZ-328-HK) and a black BMW 4 Series (registration number ED-398-RH)”, explain the investigators. These two vehicles were also later found torched. DNPJ officers add that the investigation has not yet determined with which other vehicles the criminals and the fugitive then fled.
