Mélenchon states that he is not ruling out the idea of being Prime Minister, but that he is not seeking to impose himself

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, guest on France 2’s JT news programme on Wednesday 12 June, said that he felt capable of holding the post of Prime Minister, while specifying that he is not a candidate “for anything at all” and that he prefers to wait for the results of the elections

He stressed his support for Olivier Faure’s proposal that the largest parliamentary group should propose its candidate, without seeking to impose anyone.

However, allied parties such as the PS, PCF and EELV have clearly expressed their opposition to the idea of Jean-Luc Mélenchon being the common candidate of the Left Union for the post of Prime Minister in the event of a majority in the Assembly.

They prefer a “consensual personality” to lead the “popular front” in the early legislative elections, citing other figures such as François Ruffin or Laurent Berger, so that there are no misunderstandings.
