Lucie Castets clarifies her voluntary commitment

Lucie Castets, nominated by the New Popular Front (NFP) to be Prime Minister, took to X on Wednesday to clarify her commitment to the left-wing coalition. She made it clear that all her activities, including ‘hundreds of hours of preparation, meetings and travel’, were carried out on a voluntary basis. This statement echoes rumours circulating about possible remuneration.

A response to Marianne’s allegations

Without explicitly mentioning the article in question, Lucie Castets responded to information published by the magazine Marianne, which claimed that an estimate of 51,000 euros per month had been drawn up for her entire team, in addition to 9,000 euros for herself. Castets retorted that this budget estimate, proposed in July by the NFP, ‘was never implemented’. She thus affirmed that her work for the coalition had been carried out free of charge, thus confirming her selfless commitment.

Support and reaction from the Left

Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the Socialist Party, supported Lucie Castets, confirming that her commitment, like that of her colleagues, had been ‘totally voluntary throughout the summer’. Faure also criticised what he called ‘a world of intoxication’, where disinformation is used as a tool to discredit those involved. This firm stance is intended to set the record straight in the face of the speculation surrounding Castets’ appointment.
