LFI and the Ecologists join youth organizations’ call to demonstrate against the far right in Paris on Sunday, after Le Pen’s conviction

Mobilization Against the Far Right in Response to Pro-Le Pen Rally

This Sunday, Paris will witness two opposing gatherings: on one side, a rally in support of Marine Le Pen, organized by the National Rally following her recent conviction; on the other, a demonstration against the far right and in defense of the Republic, initiated by several youth organizations and backed by left-wing parties.

The RN’s rally, scheduled for Place Vauban, comes after a court ruling sentenced Marine Le Pen to five years of ineligibility in the first instance, in the case of the European parliamentary assistants. According to police sources, organizers expect nearly 8,000 attendees.

In response, the Union Syndicale Lycéenne, the Union Étudiante, and Jeune Garde have called for a counter-demonstration at Place de la République, denouncing what they see as an attempt to challenge the judiciary and a “power grab” by the far-right party. Their appeal has been echoed by political figures such as Manuel Bompard (LFI) and Marine Tondelier (The Greens), who confirmed their participation. “The rule of law is sacred and inviolable,” emphasized the national secretary of The Greens.

Trade unions like Solidaires, as well as antifascist and student associations, have also joined the movement. According to the organizers, the goal is clear: to show that “the streets and the youth are not won over” by the RN.

While tensions surrounding these events are high, authorities remain cautious. So far, no major risks of violence have been identified, though security measures will be reinforced.
