The majority cited “respect for [his] former position” to justify their decision. Former president François Hollande confirmed his candidacy in Corrèze for the legislative elections on Saturday
The presidential majority has decided not to invest a candidate against François Hollande in Corrèze for the legislative elections, according to information obtained by H24 MEDIA on Sunday 16 June. This decision is motivated by “respect for [his] former position”.
“Our main criterion for the nomination is to be the useful vote from the first round. In constituencies where we can’t do that, we don’t have a candidate. François Hollande remains a candidate of LFI and its allies whom we do not support”, said a participant in the meeting organised by Emmanuel Macron to H24 MEDIA.
François Hollande, invested by the departmental federation of the Socialist Party as part of the New Popular Front, announced on Saturday that he was standing as a candidate in Corrèze for the legislative elections.
At a press conference, he stressed the “unprecedented” nature of this decision, citing the seriousness of the current situation with the rise of the Rassemblement National.
“If I have taken this decision, it is because I believe that the situation is more serious than ever. The danger posed by the far right is now real. The far right has never been so close to power since the Liberation”, he told the press in his stronghold of Tulle.
