King Charles III was briefly hospitalized on Thursday, March 27, after experiencing side effects related to his cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement. “Following a scheduled medical treatment this morning, the king experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in the hospital,” the statement said. After a few hours, the 76-year-old monarch was able to return to his private residence, Clarence House. On the advice of his medical team, he was forced to cancel his scheduled engagements for Friday, which will be rescheduled at a later date.

A Diagnosis Kept Confidential

Since February 2024, King Charles III has been undergoing treatment for cancer, the nature of which has never been publicly disclosed. The exact treatment method also remains unknown, fueling widespread speculation. His health, along with that of Princess Kate, who was also diagnosed with cancer, has been a focal point of media attention in recent months.

Although his treatment requires adjustments to his schedule, the monarch has consistently expressed his desire to continue fulfilling his duties whenever possible. He resumed his public duties by the end of April 2024, just two and a half months after announcing his illness. In October of that year, he even embarked on an 11-day trip to Australia and Samoa for the Commonwealth summit, accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, temporarily pausing his treatment.

Despite these health challenges, the king continues to fulfill his role, supported by other members of the royal family, with Prince William increasingly taking on responsibilities in his absence.
