Inflation in France continued to slow in April, reaching 2.2% on an annual basis, according to preliminary data published by INSEE on Tuesday 30 April
This figure is lower than the 2.3% rise in prices recorded in March and the 5.9% recorded in April 2023. This slight dip is mainly due to a slowdown in food prices (+1.2% year-on-year, compared with +1.7% in March) and tobacco prices (+9%, compared with +10.7%), as well as a slight fall in manufactured goods prices (-0.1%, compared with +0.1%). On the other hand, energy prices accelerated (+3.8% compared with +3.4%), according to the National Institute of Statistics.
Services prices rose at the same rate as in March, i.e. +3% year-on-year, according to these preliminary figures. In terms of monthly trends, consumer prices accelerated in April (+0.5% compared to +0.2% in March), mainly due to the rise in service prices, particularly in transport and ‘other services’. Energy prices fell this month, but at a more moderate pace than in March, while those for manufactured goods and food remained virtually stable.
