Suspect arrested in Portugal in the murder of the Grenoble municipal officer
On Thursday 21 November, a man was arrested in Portugal, two months after the murder of Lilian Dejean, a Grenoble municipal officer. At a press conference on Friday 22 November, Grenoble public prosecutor Éric Vaillant gave details of the main suspect.
Aged 25, this man was first incarcerated at the age of 15 by the Grenoble juvenile court judge. He has 19 convictions on his criminal record, mainly for violence and drug trafficking. In the last ten years, he has served six years in prison, according to the public prosecutor.
The identity of the suspect was quickly established after the murder, thanks to the discovery of his identity card in the vehicle that he had crashed in front of Grenoble town hall, before attacking Lilian Dejean.
The arrest of this young man was made possible by the hard work of law enforcement agencies and European judicial cooperation. Currently in custody in Portugal, the suspect will be handed over in the coming weeks to the examining magistrate in Grenoble, who had issued a European arrest warrant following the crime.
