World War II Bomb: Railway Traffic Paralyzed at Gare du Nord
An unexploded bomb from World War II was discovered on Friday, March 7 during track work in Saint-Denis, 2.5 km from Gare du Nord. As a safety precaution, the Paris Police Prefecture ordered a complete suspension of rail traffic, causing major disruptions across the entire network.
Complete Traffic Suspension
SNCF has halted all trains arriving at and departing from Gare du Nord, affecting the following lines:
- Eurostar: services diverted to Marne-la-Vallée.
- RER B and D: limited service to Aulnay-sous-Bois and Stade de France Saint-Denis, respectively.
- Lines K and H: departures postponed to Mitry and Saint-Denis.
- TER: severe disruptions across all connections.
Travelers should expect cancellations and delays exceeding two hours.
Demining Operation Underway
Specialized services from the Paris Police Prefecture are currently organizing a demining operation. Rail traffic will resume only after the complete securing of the tracks. SNCF is considering a possible nighttime intervention to minimize the impact on the station’s 600,000 daily passengers.
