François Bayrou wishes to keep Bruno Retailleau at the Ministry of the Interior
This Thursday evening, during his appearance on the show L’Événement on France 2, François Bayrou expressed his desire to retain Bruno Retailleau as Minister of the Interior, believing that the latter “responds to part of what public opinion demands.”
The new Prime Minister clarified that Bruno Retailleau, who took up the post last September, had made decisions and adopted policies that seemed to align with the expectations of a large part of the population.
A key meeting immediately after his appointment at Matignon
On December 13, the day of his appointment to Matignon, François Bayrou met with Bruno Retailleau for a meeting lasting about an hour, making him the first political figure to be welcomed by the newly appointed Prime Minister.
Negotiations underway within Les Républicains
On Wednesday morning, Bruno Retailleau stated that the conditions were “not yet met” to bring members of Les Républicains into François Bayrou’s government. However, on Thursday evening, Laurent Wauquiez told his group’s deputies that some conditions now appeared to be “met” for participation in the government, while also requesting further discussions with the Prime Minister to obtain “the necessary clarifications.”
