Flooding: Three southern départements under orange flood alert
The departments of Puy-de-Dôme, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques remain under orange alert for flooding, according to the latest bulletin from Météo-France published this Saturday, October 19 at 6am. Intense precipitation and high tides have caused significant flooding, particularly in the Bayonne region, where the Adour and Nive rivers have overflowed their banks.
In the Allier region, significant flooding is underway, although Vigicrues is reporting a decline in the upper reaches of the Allier and Loire rivers. The situation remains worrying further downstream.
To the south, flooding continues, aggravated by high tides in the lower basins of the Adour and Nive rivers.
Faced with this situation, over 1,000 people have had to be evacuated since Thursday, including 25 by helicopter. Some evacuees have taken refuge in shelters set up by the authorities. Nearly 3,000 firefighters and police are still mobilized on the ground to help those affected.
