Major Fire in a Recycling Center in Paris: Fire Contained, 80 Firefighters Still on Site
Spectacular Blaze Near the Palais de Justice
A massive fire broke out on the evening of Monday, April 7, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, ravaging a waste sorting center located near the Palais de Justice and the ring road. The fire, which produced a thick plume of smoke visible from miles away, was contained thanks to a quick response from 180 firefighters. After several hours of battling the flames, the fire was brought under control just before midnight, although small flames remain this morning. Authorities state that the fire should be completely extinguished by late morning.
One Light Injury, No Toxicity Detected
The human toll remains limited, with only one lightly injured person, an employee of the center. Fortunately, thanks to the alarm system and the swift evacuation of personnel, no serious casualties were reported. The Paris police prefecture also reassured local residents, stating that the measures taken have kept air quality under control. Airparif’s measurements revealed pollution levels well below toxicity thresholds. However, authorities have advised nearby residents to keep their windows closed and stay indoors in case of respiratory discomfort.
Firefighters continue to secure the area and clear debris from the building, which suffered significant damage.
