During his visit to the Ajaccio market as part of the campaign for the European elections, the president of Reconquête was the target of egg-throwing

The chairman of the Reconquête party, Eric Zemmour, visited Corsica on Saturday 4 May as part of his campaign for the European elections. Eggs were thrown at him while he was at a market in Ajaccio, southern Corsica, according to H24 MEDIA, confirming a report by Corse Matin.

According to the local newspaper, Eric Zemmour was greeted by shouts of ‘Fascisti fora’ (fascists out), ‘dégage’ (get out) and ‘la Corse n’est pas à toi’ (Corsica is not yours), before being targeted by eggs.

His lawyer told H24 MEDIA that the facts are currently being analysed and the Reconquête party plans to lodge a complaint.

Those close to Eric Zemmour have informed H24 MEDIA that, apart from this incident, his trip to Corsica went off without a hitch.

According to his entourage, the egg-throwers were ‘ultra-left militants’. Members of the Communist Party and the CGT were also present, reports Corse Matin.

Those close to Eric Zemmour hope that those responsible for the incident will be severely punished.

Eric Zemmour reacted on his X account (formerly Twitter) by accusing the far left of resorting to violence, in reference to other similar incidents that recently occurred in Lille and the Rhône.

Commenting on the incident, Eric Zemmour said that it was a ‘defensive gesture’ and that he considered it to be ‘self-defence, even survival’. He also said on his X account that we should not live in a country where people only have the right to react when they are dead.

Eric Zemmour was due to hold a meeting in Ajaccio this Saturday afternoon as part of his campaign for the European elections scheduled for 9 June.
