The Élysée Palace announced on Sunday November 10 that Emmanuel Macron will be present in the stands of the Stade de France on Thursday to watch the Nations League match between France and Israel
This presence symbolizes the President’s full support for the French team, but also his commitment to expressing a message of solidarity and fraternity following the recent anti-Semitic violence in Amsterdam, on the sidelines of the Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
On Thursday night, supporters of the Israeli club were attacked by hostile groups, resulting in several injuries and the arrest of some 60 people. Faced with this situation, the French President intends to reinforce the values of tolerance and unity.
The meeting is taking place in a context of exceptional security. An “extremely reinforced” law and order system will be put in place to guarantee the safety of participants. A total of 4,000 police officers and 1,600 security guards will be mobilized around the stadium and on public transport – a rare presence for an international match. The Raid, the elite police unit, will also be providing protection for the Israeli team, as Laurent Nuñez, the Prefect of Police of Paris, explained on BFMTV.
