Falling water levels confirmed, despite heavy flooding in some départements

Forecasts confirm a downward trend in flooding, despite still worrying levels in some areas. This Saturday, October 12, Météo-France lifted the red flood alert for Seine-et-Marne, after several days of bad weather caused by the Kirk depression. The département now joins Eure-et-Loir and Loir-et-Cher in the orange flood alert. However, this alert was also lifted at midday for Seine-et-Marne.

According to Vigicrues, the light precipitation forecast for the north of the country this Saturday should not disrupt the upstream flooding trend. However, the situation remains worrying on the upstream Eure, in Eure-et-Loir, and on the Loir vendômois, in Loir-et-Cher, where significant flooding persists.

Over 300 people evacuated due to flooding

In Eure-et-Loir, almost half the communes were affected by flooding linked to the Kirk depression. In Bonneval, the Loir flooded the town center, forcing dozens of residents to evacuate their homes. The river level, which had peaked at 2.13 meters, fell back to 0.90 meters by Friday evening.

Downstream in Cloyes-les-Trois-Rivières, the situation is still critical. The town center was submerged, making traffic impossible. Vigicrues reported that the peak in Cloyes was reached at 1.85 meters, exceeding the level of the historic flood of January 1995.

Since the start of this flooding episode, some 800 rescue operations have been carried out, with 304 people evacuated and brought to safety. The authorities remain vigilant to the continuing risks in the worst-affected areas.
