Depression Kirk: Red vigilance for flooding in Eure-et-Loir, five other departments on orange alert

This Thursday, October 10, Eure-et-Loir joins Seine-et-Marne on red alert for flood risks, according to the latest bulletin from Météo-France published at midday. The weather agency has also placed five other départements under orange vigilance for the same reason: Aisne, Orne, Sarthe, Deux-Sèvres and Vendée. However, the orange alert was lifted for Meurthe-et-Moselle, where the situation has improved.

Record rainfall and gradual weakening

Although the Kirk low-pressure system is beginning to weaken and rainfall is gradually shifting, rainfall totals recorded over the last 24 hours have reached exceptional levels. According to data collected by Météo-France, 137 mm of rain were measured in the village of Peïra-Cava (Alpes-Maritimes), a record for the region. In Paris, the Longchamps station recorded 72 mm of rain, while the Plessis-Gassot station in the Val-d’Oise recorded 70.2 mm.

Precautions still required

In view of these volumes of rain and the risk of flooding, local authorities are urging residents in the areas concerned to exercise caution and follow safety instructions. Forecasts indicate that weather conditions should gradually improve, but vigilance is still required in departments still on alert.
