Bison Futé: An ‘extremely difficult’ weekend on the roads

Friday 26 July: a black day for departures

Bison Futé is predicting an ‘extremely difficult’ weekend on the roads nationwide, starting on Friday 26 July. In the outbound direction, Friday is classified as a black day. ‘Traffic will be very difficult from dawn until the evening on the North-South transit motorways (A7, A10 and A75)’, says the organisation in a statement published on its website.

Île-de-France: avoid driving after 10am on Friday

Due to the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, it is strongly recommended to avoid driving in the Île-de-France region after 10am on Friday. ‘Traffic is likely to be heavily congested on the ring road, and on the A1, A3 and A4 motorways as you approach Paris’, warns the Paris police prefecture.

Severe disruption in the Rhône valley and along the Mediterranean coast

The Mediterranean region is classified as red on the returns map, while the rest of the country is orange. Heavy traffic is expected from the morning in the Rhône valley, around the Mediterranean and in the Paris region.

Very heavy traffic throughout the weekend

At national level, Bison Futé is forecasting a weekend of heavy traffic congestion on the main routes (A10, A11, A7, A9), particularly in the Paris region and on the roads leading to Spain and the south of France. Traffic will be ‘very heavy’, particularly due to the traditional ‘cross-over between July and August’. Saturday 27 July is classified as black in the outbound direction nationally, while the opposite direction is classified as red.

Sunday: red in the Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions

Sunday is classified as red in the outbound direction in Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and green everywhere else. In the return direction, the day is classified as orange nationally, except in the Île-de-France region, which remains red. Some disruption is expected until Monday afternoon, although the green flag is expected for the whole country in both directions.
