Three Cyclists Hit in Rouen: Two Women Seriously Injured, Driver Arrested After Fleeing the Scene

On the morning of January 14, 2025, in Rouen (Seine-Maritime), a van hit three cyclists, seriously injuring two of them. The incident occurred on Alsace-Lorraine Street around 9 a.m. According to the firefighters, the driver first struck one cyclist and then hit two others a little further down the road.

The three victims, all women, were taken to Rouen University Hospital. One of the injured is in intensive care with a life-threatening condition, while the second is seriously injured but not in critical condition, and the third was lightly injured.

After the accident, the driver, a 47-year-old woman, fled the scene but was arrested by the gendarmes in Buchy around 10:15 a.m. following a brief chase. Authorities stated that she suffers from psychiatric issues, and witnesses reported potential suicidal intentions. The driver was placed in police custody, and an investigation was opened to determine whether the incident was an accident or a deliberate act.

Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot expressed his solidarity with the victims and emphasized the importance of cyclist safety on the roads. Additionally, 14 firefighters were mobilized for the intervention.

An investigation is ongoing, assigned to the judicial police of Rouen, to understand the circumstances surrounding this event.
