Orange Alert for Rain and Flooding in Corsica Starting Saturday Evening
Météo-France has issued an orange alert for “rain and flooding” in Corsica starting on the evening of Saturday, January 18, 2025, due to the arrival of Storm Gabri. The alert begins at 8:00 PM in Corse-du-Sud and at 10:00 PM in Haute-Corse.
According to the weather bulletin published earlier this morning, a stormy weather system will initially affect the southern part of the island in the late afternoon before gradually extending to much of the eastern half overnight from Saturday to Sunday. Rainfall is expected to intensify on Sunday over the eastern areas and mountain peaks, with significant accumulations forecasted.
Expected Rainfall Totals:
- Between 150 and 220 mm on the eastern slopes and central mountain ranges (snowfall above 1,500 meters).
- Between 40 and 60 mm along the coast, with local peaks up to 80 mm.
Rainfall is expected to taper off by late Sunday afternoon, according to Météo-France.
Safety Reminder
Authorities advise staying informed and limiting travel due to the risk of flooding. The orange alert is expected to remain in effect until 4:00 PM on Sunday.
