Bordeaux is enjoying spring-like weather: up to 20°C and persistent sunshine, with high temperatures recorded on Wednesday.

Exceptionally Mild Temperatures in Northern France

Spring is arriving early! On Wednesday, March 5, temperatures well above seasonal norms were recorded in many northern cities: 18°C in Caen and Paris, 16.1°C in Lille… A taste of summer that is expected to continue.

A Protective but Temporary Anticyclone

Since the beginning of the week, a powerful anticyclone has settled over Western Europe, shielding France from disturbances. However, this weather shield will gradually weaken by the end of the week, allowing cooler weather to return.

A Sunny but Windy Thursday in the South

For Thursday, March 6, Météo-France forecasts another bright day across much of the country. The sun will prevail, except for some rain in Languedoc-Roussillon and a few rare morning fog patches that will quickly dissipate.

However, be cautious of strengthening winds: gusts of 60 to 80 km/h are expected in the southern Massif Central, reaching 90 to 100 km/h in the Autan region.

Temperature Readings More Like April

Afternoon temperatures will remain unusually warm. Expected highs include:

  • 16°C in Lille, Brest, Le Havre, and Dijon
  • 17°C in Rennes, Nantes, Auxerre, and Toulouse
  • 18°C in Paris, Strasbourg, Marseille, and La Rochelle
  • 20°C in Bordeaux and the Basque Country

Wednesday had already seen remarkable highs: 19°C in Orly (+6.5°C above normal), 18.2°C in Paris-Montsouris (+5.4°C), and 17.4°C in Cherbourg (+7.4°C).

Colder Weather Returning by the Weekend?

Despite this unusual warmth, the expected shift in weather patterns by the end of the week could bring temperatures back to seasonal averages. Until then, the country will enjoy a few more days of bright skies — perfect for outdoor activities.
