Notre-Dame-de-Bétharram Case: Justice Drops Charges Against François Bayrou
The Court of Justice of the Republic has dropped the charges against François Bayrou in the case of violence at the Notre-Dame-de-Bétharram school. The Attorney General of the Court of Cassation stated that no offense could be identified against the Prime Minister. According to the statement released on March 3, “no offense within the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the Republic appears to be applicable” to François Bayrou, who served as Minister of National Education from 1993 to 1997.
Accusations of Failure to Report: LFI Deputies Criticize François Bayrou
The La France Insoumise deputies, Mathilde Panot and Jean-François Coulomme, had referred the matter to the Court, accusing the Prime Minister of failing to report incidents of child abuse he had been informed of during his time as Minister. They accused him of “failure to report mistreatment of minors” and “deliberate failure to prevent a crime or offense against the integrity of individuals.”
François Bayrou, who has firmly denied these accusations, was particularly criticized due to his connection to the school, where several of his children were enrolled. President Emmanuel Macron has expressed full confidence in his Prime Minister, stating that he had “answered all questions on this matter with great clarity.”
