Disrupted Rail Traffic After Storm Caetano: SNCF Hard at Work

Although Storm Caetano has left the country, its aftermath continues to weigh heavily on transportation, particularly the rail network. SNCF remains fully mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible on the affected lines.

The winter storm, marked by widespread tree falls, has caused significant disruptions to rail operations. On Friday, SNCF reported that train services remain heavily impacted in Normandy, Pays de la Loire, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and Île-de-France.

“SNCF Réseau teams are fully mobilized to clear the tracks, carry out necessary repairs, and enable a gradual return to normal operations,” the railway company stated.

A Critical Situation in Normandy

In Normandy, train traffic remains completely suspended. Ongoing interventions aim to clear the tracks and conduct necessary safety checks. SNCF expects services to resume starting at noon, once the clearing and repair work is completed.

Pays de la Loire: A Gradual Recovery

In Pays de la Loire, initial train services resumed Thursday evening between Nantes and Angers. On Friday morning, services began gradually returning to the Nantes-Saint-Nazaire and Nantes-Clisson routes, though several regional lines remain suspended:

  • Nantes-Saint-Gilles,
  • Nantes-Pornic,
  • Saint-Nazaire-Le Croisic,
  • Clisson-La Roche-sur-Yon-Les Sables-d’Olonne,
  • Nantes-Châteaubriant.

SNCF expects normal operations to be restored on these routes by the end of the day.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Île-de-France Also Affected

In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, teams continued track inspections on Friday morning, with a gradual resumption of train services expected by noon.

In Île-de-France, disruptions have been reported on Transilien line P (between Tournan and Coulommiers), parts of line L, and on line U, where fallen trees are blocking the tracks.

A Harsh Winter, Teams Fully Mobilized

Despite the departure of Storm Caetano, winter conditions with snow and ice continue to complicate operations across the rail network. SNCF teams remain committed to minimizing disruptions for passengers and restoring smooth service on all affected lines.
