A Cryptocurrency Entrepreneur Kidnapped in Sainte-Savine: Four Suspects Arrested
A 30-year-old entrepreneur active in the cryptocurrency sector was kidnapped on Friday, January 24, in Sainte-Savine, a suburb of Troyes (Aube). The man, lured into an ambush under the guise of a business meeting, was held captive by four individuals who demanded a ransom of €20,000.
According to initial findings, the victim arrived at the location expecting a professional meeting but was confronted by his captors, including one person with whom he had a commercial dispute. While he did not suffer physical violence, he was subjected to psychological pressure.
Swift Police Action
Despite being held captive, the entrepreneur managed to alert a friend, who contacted the police. Authorities intervened at the house around 10 PM and successfully apprehended the four suspects without incident. The victim was freed unharmed.
The four individuals, now in custody, are under investigation for attempted extortion. The case has been entrusted to the Troyes Central Police Station.
Growing Concerns for Cryptocurrency Professionals
This kidnapping adds to the growing concerns surrounding the safety of cryptocurrency entrepreneurs. It comes just days after the abduction of David Balland, co-founder of the cryptocurrency company Ledger. Balland was freed by GIGN forces after 72 hours of captivity, highlighting the heightened risks faced by professionals in the sector.
Authorities are urging caution and emphasizing the importance of security measures, including personal safety and cybersecurity, in an industry increasingly targeted by criminal activity.
