‘The police officer has been placed under strict judicial supervision, prohibiting her from travelling to Cherbourg and from working as a police officer,’ said Gauthier Poupeau, Coutances public prosecutor, in a statement
The policewoman whose shot fatally wounded a 19-year-old man after a traffic stop in Cherbourg (Manche) on Sunday evening was placed under strict judicial supervision and charged with culpable homicide, announced the Coutances public prosecutor on Tuesday 11 June. The court order prohibits her from travelling to Cherbourg and from working as a police officer, said Gauthier Poupeau, the Coutances public prosecutor, in a statement. A judicial investigation had been opened earlier in the day.
The 19-year-old man was trying to escape from a police checkpoint for speeding on Sunday evening when the policewoman ‘fired her firearm’, hitting him ‘fatally in the chest’, explained the Cherbourg public prosecutor on Monday before transferring the investigation to the Coutances investigating department”.
