Yannick Jadot, Green Party Senator and Former Presidential Candidate, Announces Bid for Paris Mayor in 2026
With more than a year to go until the municipal elections, the political landscape in Paris is already taking shape. This Monday, January 20, Green Party Senator Yannick Jadot announced his candidacy for the 2026 Paris mayoral race in an interview with Le Parisien.
Highlighting the “strong legacy” of outgoing mayor Anne Hidalgo, who has decided not to seek a third term, Yannick Jadot expressed his vision for change. “I want the next mayor of Paris to be a Green. I aim to bring a necessary sense of renewal and engage Parisians in a new cycle of progress,” he stated.
Positioning himself as a unifying figure for the left and environmentalists against a united right, Yannick Jadot called for immediate action. “The shared achievements, the desire for unity among our electorate, and the threat of a united right have led me to propose another path: the immediate unification of environmentalists, followed swiftly by a broader left-wing coalition,” he explained, emphasizing his readiness to challenge Rachida Dati.
Meanwhile, within the Socialist Party, two candidates have already stepped forward: MP Emmanuel Grégoire and Senator Rémi Féraud, with the latter receiving the backing of Anne Hidalgo.
Jadot’s announcement signals a pivotal moment in what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested campaign to lead the French capital.
