This Saturday morning, while Météo-France placed 30 departments on orange alert for snow and icy conditions, some residents woke up to sub-zero temperatures

The first week of the year is off to a chilly start, as Météo-France had predicted in its bulletin on January 3, announcing a drop in temperatures across the northern quarter of the country.

Météo Franc-Comtoise shared the temperature readings from the night of Friday to Saturday, noting extreme temperatures, especially in the Haut-Jura and Haut-Doubs, where values comparable to Siberian conditions were recorded. These temperatures were often the lowest observed since February 2013.

At La Combe Noire in Mignovillard, Jura, an impressive -33.9°C was recorded, a national record, according to Météo Franc-Comtoise. In Doubs, -28.1°C were recorded at Reculfoz. In Haute-Savoie, at the Solaison doline, temperatures reached -33.1°C.

On the other hand, in regions like Aquitaine, temperatures began to rise. At 8 a.m., Cambo-les-Bains in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques recorded 13.4°C, and Bordeaux reached 13°C. Meanwhile, Doubs continued to experience extreme cold, with -19°C in Mouthe and -23.4°C in Pierrefontaine-les-Varans.

A warming trend is expected from Sunday, bringing milder temperatures to the country.
