Shooting in Ajaccio: One victim dies, investigation continues

On the night of Monday, December 23, a shooting broke out in the crowded Le Lamparo bar in Ajaccio, leaving seven people injured. One of the victims, a man in his thirties, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, December 24, after being rushed to the hospital. Injured in the abdomen, he underwent surgery several times during the night. Among the other injured, one person’s condition was critical, while three others went to the emergency room on their own. According to witnesses, at least five gunshots were heard.

Shooter still at large, multiple leads being investigated

The shooter fled the scene after the incident and is still actively being sought. The public prosecutor of Ajaccio, Nicolas Septe, stated that the investigation, initially opened for attempted murder, has been reclassified as murder following the victim’s death. Although no arrests have been made, the judicial police are conducting investigations to locate the shooter. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but the lead of a private dispute related to alcohol is currently favored. However, no other theories are ruled out.

It should be noted that in November, the manager of Le Lamparo bar was also a victim of an attempted murder, but to date, no connection has been made between the two incidents.

The investigation is now under the direction of the Interdepartmental Police of the South Corsica region (DIPN).
