Tondelier calls for a prime minister focused on the future

Marine Tondelier, National Secretary of the Ecologists-EELV, urged Emmanuel Macron on Thursday to make a bold choice in appointing the next Prime Minister, avoiding political figures she considers outdated, such as François Bayrou and Bernard Cazeneuve.

“I want us to look toward the future,” she said on France 2, emphasizing that “the French people are looking for enthusiasm, momentum, something new.” She criticized the promotion of names that have been present in the political landscape for years, arguing they have failed to win public support.

Figures of the “past”

Regarding François Bayrou, Tondelier pointed out that it is hard to see how “a centrist, neither left nor ecologist,” could convince her party to avoid a vote of no confidence.

As for Bernard Cazeneuve, the former Socialist Prime Minister, she lamented that his rare comments about the New Popular Front have mostly been critical: “He cannot represent us.”

A call to step out of the comfort zone

The ecologist leader also called on Emmanuel Macron to show audacity in his decision: “Mr. Macron can make an effort and step out of his comfort zone. This is what the French people are really asking for.”

In conclusion, she insisted: “These are names we’ve seen over and over again. It’s the past. I want us to look toward the future.”
