Marine Tondelier and Lucie Castets Call for Left-Wing Unity Ahead of 2027

Marine Tondelier, leader of the Green Party, and Lucie Castets, the former candidate for Prime Minister under the Nouveau Front Populaire last summer, made a strong appeal this Saturday, November 30. The two political figures are advocating for a “common candidacy” on the left for the next presidential election, emphasizing the urgency of organizing to secure a parliamentary majority and win the presidency.

A Platform to Unite Progressive Forces

In a text published on the website gagnons-ensemble.fr, and shared by Ouest-France, the two leaders announced the launch of a dedicated platform. This site aims to serve as a “framework for collective reflection and action” to unite progressive forces and lead the “cultural battle against the right and the far right.”

“Every victory is a team effort, and the urgency of the moment compels us to unite around our shared goals,” they declared, stressing the importance of unity to address today’s political challenges.

Echoing Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s Call

This statement follows closely on the heels of a notable speech by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The leader of La France Insoumise also called for unity, proposing a “common candidacy” in the event of an early presidential election. Mélenchon tied this proposal to the acceptance of his political program, a move seen as an effort to take the lead in shaping a unified left.

In this context, Marine Tondelier and Lucie Castets’ call aligns with a similar logic, though it emphasizes a more collective construction process and the need to unite all branches of the left. Their approach could well reshape the framework of future alliances.
