Ukraine-Russia Conflict: Trump’s Team Seeks to Accelerate Toward a Diplomatic Solution

Mike Waltz, the incoming National Security Advisor to the White House, expressed his “concern” over the current “escalation” between Ukraine and Russia. This statement comes as President-elect Donald Trump, set to take office on January 20, affirms his commitment to ending the conflict.

A Transition Marked by Negotiation

Donald Trump’s transition team plans to collaborate with the outgoing administration of Joe Biden to explore the possibility of an “arrangement” between the two sides. According to Mike Waltz, the aim is to define “who will be at the table, whether it’s for an agreement or an armistice, and the framework needed to reach a solution.” Speaking on Fox News, he assured that this effort would continue beyond the inauguration.

Trump’s entourage also sharply criticized Joe Biden’s decision to authorize Ukraine to use American-made long-range missiles on Russian territory. According to them, this move heightens the risk of a dangerous escalation. During his campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly expressed skepticism about the billions of dollars the Biden administration has allocated to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in 2022, promising to end the war quickly, though without detailing his approach.

Donald Trump has surrounded himself with strategic figures described as “hawks” by observers, including Marco Rubio as the future Secretary of State and Mike Waltz, a Florida congressman and former special forces officer. Presented as an “expert on the threats posed by China, Russia, Iran, and global terrorism,” Waltz is expected to play a central role in shaping U.S. strategy on these international challenges.
