Construction site accident in Val Thorens: six injured, two in serious condition
A spectacular incident occurred this Tuesday, November 19, at the Cime Caron cable car construction site in Val Thorens, Savoie. At around 7:30 a.m., a cabin carrying 16 workers collided with the arrival station, injuring six people, two of them seriously. Fortunately, the victims are not life-threatening.
Extreme conditions at over 3,000 metres
In a press release, the prefecture explained that the accident took place in particularly difficult weather conditions, at high altitude. The cabin, used for the construction of the “Caron 3200” high-altitude restaurant, was to take workers to the site, scheduled to open in December.
Large-scale rescue operation
Emergency services were deployed in large numbers to respond to the emergency. François Ravier, Prefect of Savoie, announced that **125 people** were mobilized on the ground, including :
– teams from the departmental fire and rescue service,
– SAMU,
– ski rescuers from the resort,
– as well as specialists from the CRS Alpes and the Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne (PGHM).
To coordinate operations, the prefecture has activated its crisis unit, the departmental operational center, and triggered the NOVI plan.

Shortly before noon, François Ravier confirmed that the evacuation of the injured was underway.
