Suspect in series of violent assaults charged and remanded in custody

Arrested on Tuesday evening at Toulon station (Var), a man suspected of one murder and several attempted homicides in France and the Netherlands has been charged with attempted murder. The Évry (Essonne) public prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday November 16 that the suspect, involved in several similar cases, had been remanded in custody.

Chilling facts and a disturbing modus operandi
The individual is accused of having fatally struck a homeless man in Lyon with a cinder block last Monday, and of having committed an attempted murder in Évry on October 23, when a man was attacked with a concrete block on the Evry-Courcouronnes station forecourt. DNA analysis established a link between the two cases.

The suspect, aged 32 and under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), was arrested in Toulon after an attack on a train. At the time of his arrest, he identified himself as Cameroonian.

An investigation with multiple ramifications
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect is also suspected of being linked to other similar attacks, reported in Dijon, Strasbourg and Rotterdam, using an identical modus operandi. A judicial investigation has been opened, and the examining magistrate in charge of the case in Essonne will soon be looking into other cases involving this man.

This is the latest in a series of extremely violent assaults that raise questions about his motives and background. Investigations are continuing to shed light on his actions.
