This week, a cold air mass moving in from Germany will set in across France. From Monday November 11, temperatures will plummet, breaking with the unusually mild autumn weather of recent weeks

According to Météo France, the thermometer is expected to show moderate values, with between 8 and 12°C from the north-east to Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 11 to 15°C in the north-west, and slightly milder temperatures, around 17 to 22°C, on the Mediterranean coast. Most regions will face overcast skies, while a few sunny spells will appear from Paris to Lille, with clear skies to the south.

Temperatures well below seasonal normals

On Tuesday, the cold will intensify as the cold drop moves across France, bringing rain and showers to most of the country. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur coastline will be particularly exposed to intense and sometimes stormy rainfall, spreading towards the Languedoc region in the afternoon. In the rest of the country, the weather will fluctuate between grayness, intermittent rain and a few clear spells.

Temperatures will fall further: in the north, they will range from 6°C in Belfort to 12°C in Cherbourg in the morning, while in the south, lows of 4°C are forecast in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, with only 13°C in the coastal areas of Montpellier and Nice. In the afternoon, values will remain low, around 9 to 11°C in the north and 7 to 16°C in the south.

An even colder, sunnier Wednesday

On Wednesday, under more generous sunshine, temperatures will remain low: from 3 to 6°C in the morning in the north, and close to zero in some southern towns such as Bourg-Saint-Maurice. During the day, values will hover around 9°C in the north and 11°C in the south, with peaks of only 18°C on the Mediterranean coast.

National heat indicator continues to fall

According to La Chaîne Météo, the national heat indicator will fall to 7.3°C on Wednesday and continue to drop to 6.7°C on Thursday. This cooling will be particularly marked in central and eastern France, with morning temperatures of 1°C in Vichy and 4°C in Limoges. In Alsace, afternoon temperatures are expected to be no higher than 5-7°C.

A cool, rainy weekend ahead

The sun will still be shining on Friday, but temperatures, although rising slightly, will remain cool. In the north-west, it will be between 6 and 9°C in the morning, and in the Grand-Est region, between 2 and 6°C. In the afternoon, temperatures are expected to reach 10°C in the north and 15°C in the south. Saturday will see similar temperatures, before a Sunday marked by a rise in values and the arrival of rain across the country after a sunnier Saturday.
