Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu confirmed for the first time that he had authorized the “beeper” attack against the Lebanese Hezbollah, an operation carried out in September for which he had not yet claimed responsibility
At the Cabinet meeting on Sunday, November 10, Netanyahu said he had approved the offensive, according to his spokesman Omer Dostri.
At 3.30pm on September 17, explosive “beeper” devices carried by Hezbollah members simultaneously detonated in several areas of Lebanon. The following day, walkie-talkies belonging to the pro-Iranian Shiite group also exploded, causing further damage. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported at least 37 deaths and around 3,000 injuries. Israel has so far not claimed responsibility for the attack.
