On September 24, four days after the murder of Philippine, a 19-year-old student found buried in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris, the 22-year-old suspect was arrested in Geneva, Switzerland
Transfer to French authorities
On Wednesday November 6, H24 MEDIA confirmed that he had been extradited to France as part of the investigation. Swiss forces handed him over to the French authorities in Annemasse (Haute-Savoie), and he is currently en route to Paris, where he will be presented to an examining magistrate at the Palais de Justice for arraignment.
A judicial past and a lively public debate
Already convicted of rape in 2021 and released in June 2024 after serving his sentence, the suspect had been subject to an obligation to leave the country. Although he had been placed in an administrative detention center in Metz, he had ceased to report to the authorities, resulting in his inclusion in the wanted persons file the day before the tragedy, on September 19. This murder, which took place under these circumstances, aroused strong emotions in France and reopened a public debate on the prevention of recidivism in sexual crimes.
A necessary debate on prevention measures
Philippine’s murder has prompted an urgent examination of surveillance and recidivism prevention measures. A previous victim of the suspect has called for stronger measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
